How to check if my phone is compatible with eSIMs?

Most phones made in 2018 or later are eSIM-ready. Here are three quick ways to check.

1. The fast way — dial *#06#

Open your phone's keypad and dial *#06#. A screen will pop up showing your IMEI. If you also see an EID (a long 32-digit number), your phone supports eSIM. That's the whole test.

2. The settings way

  • iPhone: Settings → General → About → scroll down. If you see an "EID" line, you're set.
  • Android (Samsung, Pixel, Motorola, OnePlus, etc.): Settings → Connections → SIM manager (or "Mobile networks"). If you see an option to "Add eSIM" or "Add mobile plan," you're set.

3. The "which phone do I have?" way

If you're carrying one of these, you're almost certainly good:

  • iPhone XS, XR, or anything newer (2018+). iPhone 14 and 15 in the US are eSIM-only — no physical SIM tray at all.
  • Google Pixel 3 or newer.
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 or newer, plus all Z Fold and Z Flip models.
  • Most recent Motorola, OnePlus, and Huawei flagships.

One catch worth knowing. Even if your phone has eSIM hardware, a phone that's carrier-locked (locked to AT&T, Verizon, O2, etc.) may refuse a third-party eSIM. If you bought your phone outright or it's already unlocked, you're fine. If you got it from a carrier on a plan, you may need to ask them to unlock it first.

Still not sure? Dial *#06# and look for the EID. If it's there, your phone can run a DashRoam eSIM.
